I-4 / Selmon Expressway Connector

Tampa, Florida

Owner: Florida Department of Transportation

Design / Construction Engineering and Inspection Support: FIGG

This major interchange connects the Lee Roy Selmon Crosstown Expressway to I-4, providing direct access for trucks from the Port of Tampa and relieving traffic from Historic Ybor City. The project was built in a highly congested urban area next to and over various railroads, roadways, and buildings. FIGG designed six concrete segmental ramps totaling 574,000 square feet of bridge deck with spans up to 250’. Erection was performed from above over active railroads and the Lee Roy Selmon Crosstown Expressway using segment lifters.
