Carrying I-275 across Tampa Bay, the Sunshine
Skyway Bridge has become an icon for Florida. At night, lights
accentuate the golden cables of the 1,200’ cable-stayed main
span. Winner of 14 design awards, the bridge set a new standard for
technological innovation and aesthetics. The superstructure of the
main span is a single precast segmental trapezoidal box section
with a single central plane of cable stays emanating from two
single pylons. Weighing up to 220 tons each, the superstructure
segments are the largest ever erected for a precast segmental
concrete bridge. |
