Houston Ship Channel
Houston, TX

The Houston Ship Channel bridge includes a record main span for concrete bridges in North and South America at 750’. It was constructed using cast-in-place balanced cantilever segmental construction. This method allowed for construction of the record span without disruption to the marine traffic in this heavily traveled navigational channel. Clearances of the bridge are 700’ horizontal and 175’ vertical. Figg Engineering Group provided modifications to the original design for Williams Brothers that resulted in a bid that was $800,000 less than the next bidder and allowed the contractor to reduce construction time.
